Roof & Gutter Silicone

A neutral (non acid) curing, one-part silicone sealant for metal, tiled and colorbond roofing.

Uses

Ideal sealant for metal & tiled roofs, colorbond roofs and fences, guttering, flashings, skylights, vents and downpipes. Optimum adhesion is achieved on ceramics, glazed tiles, metal, most plastics, rubber, glass and cementitious products.

Ideal for repairing leaks in most forms of roofing and guttering.

Ideal for weather proofing caravans and truck bodies.

Roof & Gutter Sealant is suitable for use on BHP decorative sheet metals such as Lysaght, Zincalume® and Colorbond, Marviplate®, galvanised metals, and Alcan and Comalco aluminium systems.

Technical Features

  • Excellent general purpose sealant. Will not attack zinc or cementitious surfaces.
  • Forms a durable seal
  • Does not shrink when drying
  • UV resistant
  • Low odour during application
  • Non corrosive
  • Remains flexible - will not shrink, crack, crumble or dry out
  • Weather resistant
  • 25 Year guarantee - When used as directed within 12 months of purchase

Application Tips

  • For mechanically secured joints, apply sealant within the joint in a continuous bead over and along the line of the fasteners, keeping sealant within the overlap. Assemble and fasten as soon as possible.
  • Damaged sealant can be repaired by applying new sealant directly, after cleaning the damaged area
  • For a cleaner appearance mask both sides of joint prior to sealing. Remove tape before silicone skins.
  • For a better finish complete painting prior to use of sealant as it can not be painted over
  • For a smooth finish use a spatula dipped in detergent solution
  • Can’t be painted over
  • Not recommended for use as a plug for burst pipes or below waterline applications

Consistency (as applied)

Non-slump, solvent free paste

Curing Mechanism

Very rapidly develops rubber consistency by reaction with moisture from the air

Curing Rate

2mm depth per day

Skin Forming Time

5-10 minutes (depending on weather conditions)

Elongation

Approx. 400% (ASTM D412). 21 days cure

Service Temperature

–60ºC to +150ºC (permanent)
–60ºC to +180 ºC (intermittently)

Joint Movement Capability

±25% of original joint width when applied in properly designed joint*

Clean Up

Clean all excess sealant from equipment before it cures with a cloth dampened with mineral turpentine or acetone

Once cured sealant is extremely difficult to remove and must be abraded or trimmed with a knife

Cured sealant can also be removed with Selleys silicone remover

*Properly designed joint refers to the accepted concept of correct sealant dimensions, i.e. sealant depth equal to half sealant width and sealant applied over a suitable backing material to which the sealant will not adhere or which does not limit the free movement of the sealant.
